I want to be sure I'm not putting duplicates on to my new machine. The consolidate seems to have doubled and, near as I can figure, there is significant overlap (or 100% duplication) of the music in the two folders belowĬ://users/deirdre/music/itunes media/music In preparation, I did a "consolidate" then deleted duplicates and backed up my iTunes folder. Transfering iTunes to New PC Have purchased a new PC with Windows 10 will do a fresh install of iTunes so end up with the most recent version, likely 12.9. I do have or have had in the past serval iPads, iPods, iPhones, and another older Mac book pro so I am not new to Apple. Finally, I should say the old iTunes was created on 2008 iMac running El Capetian.

It appears to be just the most recent purchases. Incidentally only a small portion of my purchases have shown up in my new iTunes app on the Mac Book. And a lot I have prev purchased from Apple. I should say that a lot of the older media folder consists of music have digitized from vinyl and music I imported from CDs. So again, at least, I am back where I started. that just took several hours ands got hung up. I also tried importing my old iTunes media folder on the sep ext hard drive by clicking on the "add music" option in iTunes on the Mac book. I have deleted the new user to get back where I started. Moreover I do not really want a second user anyway. I have tried using Migration Assistant but it set up a new second user on the Mac Book and moved on the library data and not the media. I have a relative large prior iTunes media folder save on my time Machine back up ext drive & on a separate ext drive. Migrating music from an external driver to iTunes on Mac Book Pro (running Monterrey) I need advice on migrating my old iTunes media from an external drive to my new Mac book pro. Is there a standard name for the iTunes file that knows where everything is? I think that's what I need to find - it should be somewhere on the computer - move it to where iTunes now thinks the configuration file should be.

I had a bunch of custom playlists, and I don't want to lose those. What I want is for iTunes to use the configuration file I had on my old computer, with all the playlists. I already have all my music (and audiobooks) organized in an iTunes folder where I want them to be, on an external hard drive. Note that I asked this question some time ago, and was pointed at this page: īut it doesn't seem to apply. And if not, I do have still have the old computer. How can I find or import or whatever the settings I had on the old computer? I used a PC mover utility, so it should be around somewhere. That may be because (perhaps stupidly) I used a different user name for my account (original name + 2020) than I did on the old computer, so the user folder name is different. I recently installed iTunes on my new computer, but it doesn't seem to be finding the old setup.
